Mac products. How to spot a fake!

Ok, so we all love Mac products, my personal favourites are their lipsticks and make up brushes. Im sure plenty of people agree with me here that the foundation brush is amazing! My Mac collection is pretty extensive, however like most people I do not have an endless supply of money, therefore I have been searching the internet for a while for a website that might sell cheaper Mac products.

The most obvious sites to look on are Ebay or Amazon. Ebay is heaven to me, I love it and often spend hours trawling through everything. I could not believe my luck when I found a 'Mac brush set' for around £30!! I snapped it up within seconds and started counting down the hours until it arrived.

Just out of curiosity I began doing some reading about Mac products and I was quite surprised by what I found. Even though looking back now it was obvious. So apparently 99% of Mac brushes on Ebay, on wholesale sites or sold in markets are FAKE! Even the more pricey ones are usually fake, suddenly I felt a bit foolish, why would I get a whole set of brushes for the same price as a single one in store? Its worth noting that Mac have only ever made two full sized brush sets and they were limited edition. One set was released in 2006 called the Pret - a - Porter brush set and the other was released in 2008.



So, how to spot a fake Mac brush..

Weight

First of all a real Mac brush will be heavier than a fake.

Packaging

The real Mac brushes will always be covered with a plastic sleeve which will have a bar code printed on them. Fake Mac brushes often have plastic sleeves that ONLY cover the bristles rather than the whole brush.

Lettering

Obviously each brush has Mac written on it, however an easy way to instantly recognise if you have a fake is by running your finger along the lettering. If the writing feels engraved or is quite rough then it is FAKE. The lettering on real Mac brushes is printed onto the handle, therefore cant really feel it. The lettering will also been written in silver, as opposed to some fakes that use white writing.

If someone appears to be selling lots of Mac brush sets you need to think where would they have got them all from? The majority of brush sets Mac have released are mini sets, these are usually released around certain holidays such as Christmas. Also, Mac mini brushes (travel sets) usually have a handle that has a funky little design, rather than the black shimmering handles the full size brushes have. Fake. The handle is black, mini sets such as Hello Kitty will have a less basic handle.
